Being able to age your choice of mixed cocktails, infused or straight spirit from your own bar or home is expanding our curiosity and experimental drive in a great way. The demand for replacing key ingredients with a barrel aged spirit is growing quickly.
Gin is a complex spirit that has grown widely popular to barrel age. In just a couple weeks sitting in an oak barrel, you can really taste the transformation. Here are some Barrel Aged Gin Cocktail Recipes for you to start with:
BARREL AGED NEGRONI
22 oz. Gin
22 oz. Campari
22 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Orange twist (for garnish)
Ice
Use funnel to combine Gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth in an oak barrel. (For a 2 liter barrel, use 22 oz. of each). Age for 4 weeks, or to personal taste. To serve, pour over rocks and garnish with an orange twist.
BARREL AGED MARTINI
2 Parts Gin
1 Part Dry Vermouth
Lemon Twist (for garnish)
Ice
Use funnel to combine Gin and Dry Vermouth in barrel and age for 3-4 weeks, we recommend you taste each week till satisfied. (For a 1 liter barrel, use 22 oz. Gin and 11 oz. Dry Vermouth.) To serve, pour into ice filled shaker and stir to chill. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with lemon twist.
BARREL AGED GIN OLD FASHIONED
2 oz. Barrel Aged Gin
1 Sugar Cube
3 Dashes Bitters
1 Inch Orange Peel
1 Luxardo Maraschino Cherry
Funnel your choice of Gin into barrel and age for at least 2 weeks, taste each week till satisfied. (Gin is the only ingredient that should be in the barrel for this recipe.) To serve, muddle the bitters and sugar cube with 1 teaspoon water in a lowball or rocks glass. Add the orange peel and muddle gently. Add 2 oz. of barrel aged gin, maraschino cherry and ice, stir to chill and serve.
